The statement of a Roman jailer who threw Paul and Silas into prison after they were severely flogged, ask them this question, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” The Apostles answer is simple, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved- you and your household.”
Background of the facts: For Apologetics students.
The Roman Soldier is a Greek or a Gentile by birth who don’t have a true relationship with God, while Paul and Silas are Roman Citizens, but a Jew by birth, Acts 16:37; Philippians 3:4 [Paul, originally Saul, was born in Tarsus in what is now southern Turkey and changed his name after converting Sergius Paulus. He is traditionally represented as a stocky little man, with a bald head and a grey, bushy beard. He studied Jewish law in Jerusalem under the famous rabbi Gamaliel (Acts 22:3). He and his parents were Roman citizens, having special rights and privileges. Roman citizens could not be imprisoned without a trial nor could they be scourged or crucified. His Roman citizenship saved Paul many times during his ministry. Reference…
The first action of this new believer in Christ is simply the response of Faith.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “v.8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— v.9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Secondly, a new believer must hear the message of the Gospel.
Acts 16:32, v.32Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.
In connection with Romans 10: 17 says, “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”
It is very important to listen first to Gospel of your Salvation and believe the message [If you want to believe the Gospel of your Salvation which is Christ the hope of glory according to Colossians 1:27, “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”]
Then you must believe Him [Jesus Christ] and accept Him [as your personal Lord and Saviour].
John 1:12, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
Now what name is that? Acts 4:12 says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”[Only the name of Jesus]
For short, it’s not the name of your religion or denomination or other names that you might think can help you. There is only one way to heaven and that is Jesus. He said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
If you are ready now to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Savior, please pray this short prayer with me. “Dear Lord Jesus, I thank you for your love for me, I need your help in my deepest desire to accept you as my Savior. I thank you Dear Father, for sending Jesus your only Son to die on the cross for my sins. I now consider all my faults and all the crimes that I did intentionally which I did not consider a sin before. Help me Dear God to live the life that you want me to live. I gladly come back to you now and I thank you for the resurrection of your Son Jesus. I do acknowledge that without you Dear Lord, I am nothing. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!”
If you really mean what you are praying and confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord of my life and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. The Bibles says you are saved. Praise God Hallelujah!
The Bible tells us that because of one sinner who repents, there is a celebration in heaven.
Luke 15:7 says, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
Romans 10:8-13 says, ‘v.8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: v. 9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. v.10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. v.11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." v.12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, v.13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."’
