This month I would like to address the first few verses in the book of Psalms 103 King David had these words to say; V. 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits;
How easy it is for us to take the benefits of God for granted. So often we get in the frame of mind that says, “God owes us that much.” Excuse me! God owes us absolutely nothing. But He has a wealth of benefits available to us.
In the natural, as an illustration, we invest in life insurance. At a point predetermined by you and the Company issuing the policy, you or the beneficiary begin to receive what is called benefits. That is not a word shaking revelation I know, but the benefits come because there has been an investment.
Let us look at some of the benefits David listed. Ps 103:3 Who pardons all your iniquities; Who heals all your diseases; 4 Who redeems your life from the pit; Who crowns you with loving kindness and compassion; 5 Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. 6 The LORD performs righteous deeds, And judgments for all who are oppressed.
In every one of the verses we can claim them as a promise from God, He will do exactly as He has promised. He will deposit into our life His benefits according to His promise.
We all experience pardon, redemption, healing, loving kindness, and compassion. But the problem with most of today’s society is that we have forgotten V. 5. He satisfies your years with good things.
I suggest to you today that most every person, if not everyone receiving this letter has more ‘things’ than we have time to enjoy or appreciate. Our problem is that we can’t seem to distinguish between the ‘good things’ and the ‘stuff’ we have too much of.
I will continue to say that there is nothing wrong with having ‘things’ as long as we don’t allow ‘things’ to have us.
The good things that God puts into our life are beneficial to us. They could be something as simple as going a year without an ache or pain in the body. Or getting an unexpected refund from somewhere when you really needed a little extra money that month. There have been times in my life when someone came along and shared an encouraging word, when it felt like nobody really cared anything about me or what was going in my life.
The more we are willing to go the extra mile with, and for another person the more the good things of God will appear in our life.
The benefits will always be there for you. God’s policy with us is not on the verge of collapse or failure. It is safe to continue investing in the kingdom of God! The world system as we have known in the past may be on the brink of failure, but thank God he is solid!
